Seven Blind Women Filmmakers

Mohammad Shirvani

One morning, I opened my eyes, I saw nothing (couldn't see anything). Absolute darkness!, nothing!, I could only hear a vague sound taking from little by little. It was the fast beating of my heart. I got up and fell onto the ground. I'd gone blind ! What if I’ll be blind forever? What was more tragic than my situation, was that I was foolishly thinking of the cinema at the moment. About the films I could've made, I should've made. God!, why now?  I haven't had made my best film yet. I rolled over and the beam of light from the window hurt my eyes. Light? Yes! It was light, indeed! I could see! Crying, I woke up from a dark nightmare.  For four years after that nightmare, I’ve been in the world of the blind. I taught them how to work with a digital camera. They taught me how to walk with a white cane. I helped them to see with the camera, they helped me to see without eyes. I taught them the cinema, they taught me to see.  This film was shot by seven blind women with the limitation of not employing any sighted individual's help and they could only shoot self-portrait. (2004-2008)
