This selection of films is from the collaboration with Ekrani i Artit, a festival dedicated to experimental cinema, video art, contemporary visual culture, and collective encounters through moving images in Albania since 2017. Over the years, Ekrani i Artit has brought together international and Albanian cinema through hundreds of screenings, exhibitions, talks, performances, concerts, and workshops, transforming Shkodër into a vibrant meeting point for contemporary artistic practices. This year, the festival has announced a non-competing category dedicated to young Albanian filmmakers and artists, of which will be available to view online on Shasha throughout June.
Through the personal narrative and the cultural context of the Kanun of Lekë Dukagjini, the film follows the transformation of a woman into a male role not as an identity choice, but as a family and social necessity. The documentary opens a sensitive dialogue on gender as performance, social role, sacrifice, and the boundary between personal identity and the identity imposed by the traditional structure.
